As a protagonist, I think Chizuru is often misunderstood because people focus only on what she doesn’t do. But what draws me to her is everything she endures and how she survives it without losing her kindness. She’s written with quiet strength, not loud rebellion. I love that very much. That kind of softness in the face of brutality isn’t weakness,but it’s resistance of another kind.

In a world that constantly demands her to give up, she finds her own ways to act, even when those choices and actions are subtle and even when they cost her. She’s a character whose story is about emotional survival, quiet rebellion, and the slow, painful search for a place where she’s allowed to exist as both human and Oni. (⬅️my favorite )

So, while she might not be everyone’s favorite kind of “strong character,” I think she’s a lot stronger than people give her credit for.
